Key Takeaways From the 49th EMWA Conference

Last week, November 7th , the 49th EMWA Conference traditionally gathered industry experts from across the world, this time in Malmö, Sweden. In this release OCT Clinical’s delegation of medical writers share the key takeaways from the event.

According to the EMWA, the primary goal of the Conference is knowledge exchange for ultimate professional growth and networking opportunities for medical writers at all stages of their careers. The variety of attendees also included a few global Pharma representatives and those from industry vendors.

The organizers managed to create a very saturated and well-structured program with a strong practical focus. Therefore, the event was built around a series of workshops covering various directions of Medical Writing practice, during which attendants could receive hands-on knowledge and breakdowns of real cases.

Among the most standout sessions were Consistency in Document Writing, Clinical Investigation Plans for Medical Devices and Writing about Efficacy. The workshop block of the event was complemented with several lecture sessions featuring such prominent speakers as Andrea Bucceri (Taylor & Francis Group) and Leif Groop of Lund University who delivered a presentation on the new classification in Diabetes.

'This event has turned out to be very productive and informative for our team. I have had the opportunity to participate in interesting and enlightening conversations with colleagues from a variety of countries, exchange experience and find out more about different medical writing practices.
It has become obvious once again how broad Medical Writing in Europe is with its coverage of regulatory writing, medical communication, educational writing for healthcare professionals and medical journalism.' – Boris Eliseev – OCT Clinical Medical Writer.
